On The Shelves - "The Lure of Paris: Nineteenth-Century American Painters and Their French Teachers"

I first saw this book about 5 years ago when Jeff Watts brought it into a class I was taking. This book is great! It covers some of my favorite painters. At 295 pages with an image on almost every page, this book is very well done. The only disappointment is that about 65% of the images are b/w. That aside there are plenty of full page full color images. You'll see work from Jean-Leon Gerome, William Bouguereau, John Singer Sargent, Charles Sprague Pearce, and another dozen artists you've probably never heard of that are equally as good. The book is out of print and goes in price between $120-$700. Check out for the best price.

Here are some pages from the book.
